Glossary of Realms Terminology

This is a list of terms and definitions you may come across, when browsing Realms Event Listings, Announcements, or Recaps. If you have something you'd like to add to this list, feel free to contact us with your info/ideas! Thank you, and enjoy!


Armor Requirements Certain items of Garb will not count as armor, usually caps or sports equipment.
Arsenal of Weapons Many weapons are expected to be used. Alternatively, many weapons are expected to be 'broken' by spells, boulders, and the like.
Auctions Using In-Game Currency.
Boat Rules Usually made from PVC to cross areas designated as 'water'.
Campaign Event Covers several days of in-game time.
Cannot Accept Cash On-Site Usually accompanies 'Pre-Registration '.
Cash Bar Alcohol available on-site, usually at Feasts.
Chimeron Fae Rules Players whose characters are Fae should speak with Event Staff, to find out what they should know. This may include interactions with the Seelie or Unseelie Court, etc.
Combat - High All characters will be involved in combat.
Combat - Low Usually feast or tavern-style events.
Combat - Moderate The default amount of combat at a Realms Event.
Competitions Non-Combat contests of skill! See below.
Convergences-Style Several plots or quests happen at this event. You will be expected to NPC for at least one of them.
Creathorne Steed Rules If you have been sponsored by Creathorne to have a Horse or Steed, you may run on the event site. Otherwise, you must always walk. (This is mostly a Safety Rule for the large events such as the Tournaments of Creathorne).

Dog Sledding Man-pulled Sleds, Winter/Snow events
Drinking - Damp Site Some drinking acceptable, bring your own, be responsible!
Drinking - Dry Site No alcohol allowed!
Drinking - Wet Site All Alcohol allowed, but be responsible!
Dungeon Crawl An enclosed or semi-enclosed 'dungeon'. Bring food/snacks with you, in case the dungeon is multi-hour and you cannot leave it.
Event Holder The Person or Persons running the Event, frequently abbreviated 'EH'.
EH Items Required Any Items, Magic or otherwise, issued by the Event Holder MUST be present.
Food Food and drink may or may not be available at an event. See Below.
Grimloch Zombie Rules See the Grimloch Site Rules, below.
High Physical Contact There will be more touching/physical contact than allowed by the Omnibus Rules. Check with the Event Holder for details.
High Risk Your Character could die, or have other long-lasting/permanent effects happen to them.
In-Character Gambling There will be a gambler's hall or casino set-up for gambling/wagering using in-character currency.
In-House Items These are magic items that only work at this Event Holder's events or sites.
Insectafae Rules <unknown>
Live Site This site is active 24 hours a day. Typically includes rules for in-character cabin 'theft' and 'burning' cabins. These rules are available here
Major Magic Changes This event is vastly different than the Omnibus Rules, and may or may not count as an actual 'Realms Event'.
Minor Magic Changes Some spells may work differently.
Mature Content Activities not suitable for children will occur, usually at night.
Merchant Row Merchants are encouraged to set up shop, and players are encouraged to bring their In-Game Currencies.
Night Quest Parts of the Event activities are held at night. Extra caution is recommended. Safety First!
No Magic Items in Tournaments No Magic Items may be used.
NPC Non-Player Character. You may or may not get to play your actual character, if you NPC at an event. See below for more details.
Pre-Registration Some form of registration BEFORE the event is required to attend. See below.
Puzzles Puzzle-solving may be part of the Event/Quests.
Racial Abilities Extra abilities may be granted based on the character's race.
Regional Magic Different spells are available to characters who have dedicated spell slots to "Regional Magic". A partial list is available below.
Restrictions on Magic Items Not all Magic Items are allowed at this Event.
Rules Testing Rules different than the Omnibus may be in use for testing. Be prepared.
Scuff Test Shoes that scuff the floor are not allowed. A scuff test will be done, and you will not be let into the event if your shoes do not pass. Additionally, hard kneepads are usually not allowed.
Servant A special kind of event staff, dedicated to the kitchen/feast hall. Player servants are expected to be Hospitable, but do not have to tolerate abuse or extreme rudeness. They will work as instructed by the EH and/or Feastocrat (Person in charge of the feast).
Site Rules Additional rules that affect the site are in-play, check with the Event Holder for more information. A partial list of 'known sites/events with rules' is below.
Smoking - Allowed Smoking is allowed anywhere on the Event Site.
Smoking - None No Smoking is allowed anywhere on the Event Site.
Smoking - Restricted Smoking is allowed in designated areas of the Event Site.
Special Combat Calls The Event has certain combat calls that are different than what is defined in the Omnibus, and should be learned/prepared for.
Special Effects - Lights Bright, flashing lights may be in-use at the event. Epileptics should be aware.
Special Effects - Pyro Pyrotechnics/Fireworks may be in use at the event.
Special Effects - Smoke Smoke Generators may be in use - Asthmatics should be aware.
Spells May Work Differently Certain spells may have different effects than in the Omnibus. Contact the Event Holder for more information.
Strict Omnibus Rules Nothing outside of the Rules of the Omnibus will work or be allowed at this Event Site.
Thrown Weapons Thrown weapons are allowed, as designated by the EH. Contact them to see what is allowed and safe.

Tournaments Combat-based tests of skill and daring! See Below.
Trappings of Civilization Each player may select a Profession, which grants them an ability. A full list is available here
Traps Some form of mechanical traps may be part of the Quests at this Event. Some 'mundane' tools may be allowed, contact the EH for more information.
Unsafe Conditions Come unsafe areas may exist, and extra caution is required. There is a risk of actual injury.
Weapons Inspection All weapons must be inspected, on-site, by the EH or their designated inspectors.

NPC These entries cover what NPCs may be affected by, at an event.
NPC - Black Clothing A suit of black clothes is required to NPC here. Often referred to as "Union Blacks".
NPC - No Spell Credit NPCs will NOT get Spell Credit for their Character.
NPC - NPCs Get Discount NPCs get into the Event cheaper.
NPC - NPCs Get In Free NPCs get into the Event for Free.
NPC - NPCs Rewarded NPCs get into the event for free AND are rewarded, get to eat first, etc.
NPC - NPCs Wanted NPCs are needed by the Event Holder.
NPC - Servants Wanted Servants, a special type of NPC, are needed by the Event Holder.

Food These entries cover what kind of food may be at an Event.
Food - Full Feast A full feast will be available, possibly costing extra.
Food - Limited Limited food, typically snacks, will be available.
Food - No Food or Water Just like it says, roll your own.
Food - Vegetarian Only The Feast is Vegetarian Only, there will be no meat served.
Food - Water Only Bring your own food, but water will be provided.

PreReg These entries cover possible options for Pre-Registration
PreReg - Cabin Registration You must pre-register if you want a cabin. This typically costs extra.
PreReg - Cash Up Front You must pre-register and pay BEFORE the Event.
PreReg - Dietary Restrictions You must specify any dietary restrictions for your portion of the feast.
PreReg - Discounted Admission Pre-Registration provides a discount to the cost of the Event.
PreReg - Food/Feast Registration Pre-Registration is required to eat at the feast/be provided with food.
PreReg - Item Registration All Magic items and In-House Items must be pre-registered.
PreReg - Magic Registration All spellbooks/spells/abilities must be pre-registered. Knights, too!
PreReg - None No Pre-Reg is required to attend the Event.
PreReg - Registration Pre-Registration is required to attend the Event.
PreReg - Registration Rewarded Pre-Registration is rewarded, typically with IC money, tokens, or plot items.
PreReg - Special A very specific type of Pre-Registration is Required. Check with the EH for more details/requirements.
PreReg - Suggested Pre-Registration is suggested, but not required, to attend the Event.
PreReg - Tournament Reg Pre-Reg is required, if you wish to particiapte in the Tournaments.
PreReg - Undead Soldiers Reg If you are bringing Undead Soldiers, as per the Omnibus, you must Pre-Reg them, and their chosen powers.

Regional Magic Regional Magic varies per event/site, as explained in the Omnibus. Some Events will hold their Regionals until the reading of the rules, usually for plot reasons. Therefore, taking Regional Magic slots is a gamble.

Site Rules These entries explain what Rules are in-use at a Site or Event
Site Rules - Aerenor Magic/In-House items handled at Registration, Dry Site, Regional Magic, No Magic items in Tourneys, Spellcasters may ignore restrictions in tourneys, Do not go into the water without permission, Smoking restricted to Fire Pit, Food - Limited, Minor Magic Changes, External Plots with EH permission only.

Site Rules - Idaris "The Idaris Effect" - Idaris used to be well known for being a nation entirely comprised of undead. When dead, count to 200 and stand back up as the Create Undead spell, except that you have free will.
Knightly Gauntlets - Each gauntlet will hold one Spell from the Healing Circle (must be charged by a caster).

Site Rules - Stores Hill Ski Area Carpool if possible, limited parking available. This is a public area, so dispose of cigarette butts appropriately, and pack your trash out.

Site Rules - WPI/Riley Scuff Test, Armor Requirements, No hard kneepads. WPI/Riley is an indoor Gymnasium facility, and the floor must be kept undamaged.

Competitions These entries cover competitions, which are non-combat in nature. In all cases of food, garb, or other crafting competitions, claiming that you made the item, or items, in question when you bought it or had someone else make it...is very not Kosher.
Competitions - Bardic General Bardic Compeitions, open format.
Competitions - Bardic (Comedy) Bardic Comedy, make 'em laugh.
Competitions - Bardic (Dance) Dance the night away.
Competitions - Bardic (Song) Sing! Sing a song!
Competitions - Bardic (Story) Tell us a story, make us weep.
Competitions - Campsite Best-looking Campsite at the Event.
Competitions - Cooking Any cooking competition, usually bring it to be judged, not cooking on-site.
Competitions - Cooking (Cookies) Bring a couple dozen, at least, of the same type.
Competitions - Cooking (Pie) Bring at least two or three of the same type.
Competitions - Garb Best set of clothes at the event.
Compeition - Magic (Rituals) Best performed Magic Ritual, using a spell from the Omnibus or Regional Magic. May or may not actually have an in-game effect. Caster may not actually know the purpose of the ritual until right before the competition.
Competitions - Poisioning Best death by in-game poisioning. Note: An in-game poison, from the Omnibus, is actually 'given' to the character. Best have a skilled Healer ready, for you will die!
Competitions - Siege Weapons Big machines of death and destruction. Judged on accuracy, damage. Not fired at players!

Tournaments These are the types of Tournaments which may be at a given Event. NOTE: Many events do NOT let spellcasters violate their weapons restrictions! Check with the EH to see if this is allowed. Weapon types/sizes are defined in the Omnibus.
Tournaments - Combat General combat tournaments
Tournaments - Combat (Dagger) 18" bladed weapon only.
Tournaments - Combat (Dinky) Any single 18" weapon. Dinky Weapon of Doom.
Tournaments - Combat (Double Dagger) Two 18" bladed weapons only.
Tournaments - Combat (Florentine) Any legal Florentine Combination.
Tournaments - Combat (Hand and a Half) Any legal hand and a half weapon.
Tournaments - Combat (Single Short) Any legal short weapon. It may be blades only.
Tournaments - Combat (Sword and Shield) Any legal Sword and Shield combination.
Tournaments - Combat (Team) Teams of two or more people, possibly combining fighters and spellcasters.
Tournaments - Combat (Two-Handed) Any legal two-handed weapon.
Tournaments - Magic Spellcasters only, sometimes combat-oriented.
